180 Degree Rule

The 180 Degree Rule

When a rule in media is broke, the viewer will always question just what on earth has happened.

Here is an example of the 180 rule:

Who is my target audience?

My target audience

My target audience that i was aiming to promote my clip at was at middle aged football supporters, also i was trying to promote it to 18-30 year olds too that enjoy the casual scene. With football hooliganism being such a niche market we had to be extremely specific trying to match all of the conventions.

E.g:
An away day, starting early drinks on the train and chanting through the away town,
Wearing top quality gear for example: stone island, cp company, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste and adidas shoes.

The majority of middle aged men don't have social media, i thought the best way to advertise the film trailer was to put an article in a newspaper.

On the flip side the youth use lots of social media so advertising on social media sites would be best to promote it for the age brackets of 18-30.

Camera and Lighting

Camera and Lighting

With my basic filming skills it was apparent that i really needed to improve them. How did i do this you wonder? I used the power of the internet and researched into it. I went on youtube and looked up basic camera skills and this is what i found and then used these skills in my task.

Lightning

Good lighting is key for a good video. Without good lighting a high grade cannot be achieved.
There is harsh and soft lighting.
Harsh lighting is when theres lots of light in a room causing lots of shadows, whereas soft lighting is when there is a sufficient amount of lighting in a room causing no shadows.

Age Classification

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is a business that was founded by the film industry in the year of 1912.

The British board of film classification are responsible for censorships that movies are shown in the cinemas.

Here is the BBFC's age ratings:

BBFC carries out a major public questionnaires to find out what the public thinks about the age rating of films before they are released and whether the BBFC’s standards meet public concerns.

Focus Group and Feedback

We got a group of 3 and we asked them a series of questions.
Here are our results.

Q1 - What genre do you think our film is?

Person A) Looking at the film opening I can gather a few bits of information and I can have a good guess that the genre is action.

Person B) I think it may be action due to the confrontation between the two different sets of boys (the group of 3)

Person C) Action because of the handling of what appears to be drugs.

Q2 - What part did you enjoy the most?

Person A) I enjoyed the start of the film the actor doing his hair and shoes, something interesting must be happening, he's also wearing a watch which shows that he's going somewhere important.

Person B) The part when all the boys meet up, I think something big is going to happen. Maybe a fight or something.

Person C) When the boy on his own looked and gave the 3 boys a hand signal, I think there must have been a dispute in the past between these 2 groups of people.

Q3 - How do you thing the film would end?

Person A) I recon the film would end in a fight, I recon the 3 boys would go out looking for the other lad that they saw across the street.

Person B) The boy on his own would go and find his mates and then come back to where the other 3 boys where and then a massive brawl would happen.

Person C) I think that the boys would do the drugs that they got and go off to a football match and then cause trouble. The other lad on his own would be in the away end and then a massive fight would happen outside the ground.

Q4 - Would you watch the rest of our film by just watching our opening?

Person A) Yes I would, their was some tension between the boys which would end in a fight most likely, and I really enjoy watching films with violence in them. So yes I would watch the rest of the film.

Person B) Most likely, it looks interesting and I would want to see what the other boys would do if they saw the boy on his own again.

Person C) I would certainly carry on watching the film. I can get a sense of football violence, I really enjoy football violence films, its one of my favourite types of films.

Q5 - What are your thoughts on location?

Person A) I think the locations that have been used are good. The start of the opening you see a boy doing his hair at home in a mirror which isn't braking any conventions. Where the drug deal is happening is good too, the changeover is where you'd usually see a drug deal. In an empty place.

Person B) I thought that the use of location was good. I think lots of thought has gone into the consideration of the choice of location.

Person C) Location that was used in the film was very interesting. I also thought that it didn't break any conventions.

Q6 - What are your thoughts on the props used?

Person A) I think that the props used where good. Usually in action movies you see lots of fighting and drug use. The use of what appears to be drugs works very well with the genre and does not break any conventions.

Person B) The clothing that the boys wore was very good and fitted very well with the genre. You usually see people in smart/branded clothes in action movies and the boys in the film wore and stuck to the convention.

Person C) Using the phone to meet up with the lads mate was good and was a good use of a prop. Also leaning against the ped in a sort of a fashionable way. The use of props was good.

Reasearch into Target Audience

Research into audience

We came to a conclusion that our audience would be 14-18 year olds that enjoy football and violence.

We got this information from our questionnaire that we made online, researching into our audience is vital because without an audience a movie/film is nothing at all.

Our target audience is so very niche because not many people are interested in football violence films.

We tried to stay to conventions well and correctly because we wanted out target audience to recognise these conventions:

·         Drugs

·         Violence

·         Beer
